Italophonia: The Language Beyond Borders

Every year, during the third week of October, the Week of the Italian Language in the World is celebrated worldwide, an event dedicated to the Italian language.

The Yerevan Committee of the Dante Alighieri Society also took part in the celebrations, organizing a series of cultural events dedicated to Italian, attended by the Ambassador of the Italian Republic to Armenia, representatives of the Embassy, guests from Italy, members of the Yerevan Committee of the Dante Alighieri Society, professors, students, and other participants.

On October 13, the Week of the Italian Language was inaugurated at Yerevan State University, where students studying Italian presented the role of the Italian language in the world, recited poetry, sang, and performed a short theatrical play.

On October 16, at Brusov State University, the official ceremony for the inauguration of the second office of the Yerevan Committee of the Dante Alighieri Society took place. Afterwards, in the university’s main hall, the Armenian film “It’s us and our mountains” was screened with Italian subtitles. The translation of the film was prepared by the university’s students under the supervision of Professor Anahit Mkryan, Head of the Italian Language Department.

Also on October 16, at the European University of Armenia, and on October 17, at School No. 135 named after Gagik Stepanyan, Italian writer, publisher, and artist Raffaella Polverini met with students and pupils. During these meetings, the author presented her two most recent works, spoke about her publishing activity and artistic work. The meetings concluded with a Q&A session and interactive games.

On October 17, at the Sergei Parajanov Museum, the Yerevan Committee of the Dante Alighieri Society presented its new Italian language courses, the Committee’s official website, the launch of PLIDA (Progetto Lingua Italiana Dante Alighieri) certification exams, and upcoming projects. Afterwards, students from Brusov State University organized a guided tour in the Italian language through the museum, thus closing the Week of the Italian Language.
